text-align: justify;">I've been wanting to paint this for a long time. I didn't really have the image complete in my head, but the reference is great. It's from Genesis, <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis%204%3A7&version=NIV" target="_blank">Genesis 4:7</a> to be exact. God reminds Cain the sin is crouching at your door and you must rule over it. I started with a clean canvas and was going to make a version of a <a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/2001/12/cc2001-christmas-grain-2001.html#:~:text=2001b">sketch from 2001</a>. Then it struck me - just use this as the house by which sin is crouching. The sky came together nicely and as you might guess, painting the croucher was the most challenging. The gif shows a total position change and then several versions of the face. I wanted it to be very subdued but also repelling. Sin is intentionally larger than the door as it can, at times, be very imposing.</div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjotdi9OUX7Dp0EP72mnOsNLWl2Av9tyUxuiDjauuIPFUcwa794Gc7Sj3ldjwHbSsrA4bEztItn8SROBrWHva9NvZxJnS9FOCsdIru81ALHrNf7ltTikeuudO0OTPjfThYdQcFMZ8PpMrvbLqJN2Gto7P3f42y5i-ohm-oM9Cj9ZSiZ98IvXA_QL_OhcpU/s650/cainw-morph-gif02.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="650" data-original-width="488" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjotdi9OUX7Dp0EP72mnOsNLWl2Av9tyUxuiDjauuIPFUcwa794Gc7Sj3ldjwHbSsrA4bEztItn8SROBrWHva9NvZxJnS9FOCsdIru81ALHrNf7ltTikeuudO0OTPjfThYdQcFMZ8PpMrvbLqJN2Gto7P3f42y5i-ohm-oM9Cj9ZSiZ98IvXA_QL_OhcpU/s320/cainw-morph-gif02.gif" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A gif showing the stages/progress. I love flying. Starfighters are legends but, like the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_T-38_Talon" target="_blank">T-38</a> or <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_F-5" target="_blank">F-5</a>, what they excel at is looking good. I've been meaning to paint more airplanes so hopefully, this is a starting point. I painted a 737 in <b><i><a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/2020/04/kden-to-ksfo-in-my-mind.html" target="_blank">KDEN to KSFO in My Mind</a></i></b>, but that didn't have a lot of detail. Speaking of an F-5, maybe I'll try that next. Regardless of it's combat ability, I do put the Starfighter in the line of single-engine, single-tail legends (of jets). If you care, F-86, F-100, F-104, F-105, F-16. I struggled a bit with the sky. I wanted more of a violent sky but also liked the peaceful versions. Kind of went abstract toward the end.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvLIEsIfRY2-UihRJZfCvzH9VfISJDJvi86hEW13oHqUXOYbDH93djOLZLYFcTVOi9tjIOBoQKt1vffGNp0pOs9Tl6Jw-frjJ-554hLdHCJWn4cwRdLTU71EfLvPzKDrdxdNcBh3L3W-20fd4sK1ju3_o6aZ8i1u5LMbyMcAaPotRq57wl8xIxOpW2_tE/s890/star-morph-gif.gif" style="margin-left: 1em; I wanted to do another person but it was the day of the deadline...so I painted this that morning. The 60-stroke limit was a great exercise. Having the additional time constraint was another good exercise. The above picture is before I added the light/shadow behind the guardian, however, it's a much better picture. I forgot to take the final picture in the same light and it turned out pretty rough (it's below). This was also the first painting I've done on a black canvas - a canvas that started black. That was pretty cool. In the end, I had five 60-stroke paintings but could only submit three. It was priced a bit more than I would have hoped, but I had to get it. I thought I'd go with a similar concept. The skies, animals and dirt are different, but not so much. In my normal fashion, I finished the sky, hills and basin rather quickly, then sat awhile on the horse and rider. It's kind of a courage play for me - especially when I am happy with the background. Also, I'm pretty sure this is the first think I painted on particleboard. It actually makes a pretty good texture and I don't expect it to bubble and/or warp since the amount of paint wasn't really enough to soak it for an extended period of time. If I wasn't limited to strokes, I'm certain I would have put more detail into the work. However, as I mentioned before, this is a great exercise of being forced to stop and accepting what you get. It's also a great exercise in planning the work in my head.</div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-J0nH3Y38YPGVJW_APcegEh3-qiLFsXCBwSwHku_uDrVeOs4gOJDjYUOsC2vt5dgc_5Y7rCIsR8pIV8kY5F_Z-0U-eK_vsxzidEj4WQmTe6CGhQYVoISL2N3-sEXQ6p5dbG5KDMshta-jLcgsM_L9qiKIJvggAXJ3_BY0crNO1evtbgr876ahaN3XKFU/s2653/particle-20240211a.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2653" data-original-width="2122" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-J0nH3Y38YPGVJW_APcegEh3-qiLFsXCBwSwHku_uDrVeOs4gOJDjYUOsC2vt5dgc_5Y7rCIsR8pIV8kY5F_Z-0U-eK_vsxzidEj4WQmTe6CGhQYVoISL2N3-sEXQ6p5dbG5KDMshta-jLcgsM_L9qiKIJvggAXJ3_BY0crNO1evtbgr876ahaN3XKFU/w160-h200/particle-20240211a.jpg" width="160" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ4MFZGO3TBFGsqf4r5WAdbr3BVKVJpVKaM1NFD-0j7p9uO_l9rIxcL-EGGm6NZtExttSvyqAGZc6gM69M6VMijE4x8W3yt_L-3WOGgxpinN9tayqxy97kiDyHkqudnzsp5aXSFTzYltjtTXVMcqFU98BPelKx-60Tl3RkPTPHp0GG8kH0Umc8noUapBI/s3318/particle-20240213a-frame.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3318" data-original-width="2822" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ4MFZGO3TBFGsqf4r5WAdbr3BVKVJpVKaM1NFD-0j7p9uO_l9rIxcL-EGGm6NZtExttSvyqAGZc6gM69M6VMijE4x8W3yt_L-3WOGgxpinN9tayqxy97kiDyHkqudnzsp5aXSFTzYltjtTXVMcqFU98BPelKx-60Tl3RkPTPHp0GG8kH0Umc8noUapBI/w170-h200/particle-20240213a-frame.jpg" width="170" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This was the particleboard before paint and I had a strip of trim which made a nice frame.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">- mm -</div>Muskethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15223531349682116011noreply@blogger.com0Colorado, USA39.5500507 -105.782067411.239816863821154 -140.93831740000002 67.860284536178852 -70.6258174tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2851332390278441936.post-13203664913461537152024-02-12T14:32:00.000-08:002024-02-26T17:31:20.520-08:00King 62 : 2024-02<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVhnHEehNxal6-o0-hcKc0XGNiSeI_bsij-QyL8TR5UwKeg5xaruulsjEDvvkGwJdeYcVKrHl9sJM2r2LNb8mLlvixvr1pKC3K81WMOrcnVGVmZ9Io7rctdagk3Ek9tpW6So3iEYN96UdVa19TOwbRKm3KacRoS-qegmC48w4tjz8jC7h06QFc9aMC72Q/s2290/king62-20240212b-frame2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="2290" data-original-width="1882" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVhnHEehNxal6-o0-hcKc0XGNiSeI_bsij-QyL8TR5UwKeg5xaruulsjEDvvkGwJdeYcVKrHl9sJM2r2LNb8mLlvixvr1pKC3K81WMOrcnVGVmZ9Io7rctdagk3Ek9tpW6So3iEYN96UdVa19TOwbRKm3KacRoS-qegmC48w4tjz8jC7h06QFc9aMC72Q/w526-h640/king62-20240212b-frame2.jpg" width="526" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><i><span style="font-size: medium;">King 62</span></i></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">12 February 2024</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Acrylic on hardboard</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">9.75 x 11.75 inches (24.7 x 29.8cm)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">- <a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/p/the-store.html#:~:text=King 62">FOR SALE</a> -</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This was another attempt (and I think better) at a kingfisher in 60-strokes. It was for a gallery's call for art. <a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/2024/01/king-sixty-20240129.html"><b><i>King Sixty</i></b></a> was the first attempt, and <b><i><a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/2024/02/steampunk-sp-2024-02.html">Steampunk SP</a></i></b> was my second (first with a different subject). I think this kingfisher is much better than the first. I was also please with the background. That counts as a stroke (to me) and it's hard to keep the brush on the panel that long. Having practiced a few things with limited strokes seemed to help me envision and plan better for later pieces. Even if this isn't accepted into the show, the limited strokes are a great exercise for me. They help me let go of trying to control detail. </div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIR5eX-XWRH1BRMWoJX0n-qUJSpGa8meWu1dAXrisDgyFjajNJJEJGSSyu-6B9Ee_wQDfUiaV2XJyqzDHWyp9_r8ajyXbE1uoSCeiA-SaIxou7GXqjK-kJSadkonRb3UrbCewAKMwcJF3SzhpnfZeS5c6Ep743PJhjPySO8vc3Z054ABAn-tUoIlZ4H8I/s754/hardboard02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="754" data-original-width="603" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIR5eX-XWRH1BRMWoJX0n-qUJSpGa8meWu1dAXrisDgyFjajNJJEJGSSyu-6B9Ee_wQDfUiaV2XJyqzDHWyp9_r8ajyXbE1uoSCeiA-SaIxou7GXqjK-kJSadkonRb3UrbCewAKMwcJF3SzhpnfZeS5c6Ep743PJhjPySO8vc3Z054ABAn-tUoIlZ4H8I/w160-h200/hardboard02.jpg" width="160" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDfZUZYBpcGUdx0dvJOtRrF8jKEd9lfT7GYQnT_-rvMnjoLDclhOev7f07JnHu9Y-cGey92dYYkbL1xarKJ98sWlQRzTVWYszUw7l2CIKpM-X7ogp5b7Fi1DHkBy3E0GwQgBjacHToP-8T4IA1Uso5UKw4Q256HAj65WmkSk_nbH9vjWHh27Au7E0UGd0/s3107/king62-20240212b-frame.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3107" data-original-width="2744" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDfZUZYBpcGUdx0dvJOtRrF8jKEd9lfT7GYQnT_-rvMnjoLDclhOev7f07JnHu9Y-cGey92dYYkbL1xarKJ98sWlQRzTVWYszUw7l2CIKpM-X7ogp5b7Fi1DHkBy3E0GwQgBjacHToP-8T4IA1Uso5UKw4Q256HAj65WmkSk_nbH9vjWHh27Au7E0UGd0/w177-h200/king62-20240212b-frame.jpg" width="177" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I prefer actual wood, but had a panel of hardwood so I gave it a try.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Because I was entering this in a contest, I had to knock out a frame very quickly.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I went with a pearl black and bronze mix of Artecho acrylic.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">- mm -</div>Muskethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15223531349682116011noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2851332390278441936.post-40568204836275734212024-02-12T10:32:00.000-08:002024-02-27T12:05:36.483-08:00Buffalo County : 2024-02<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGXGIWfj-KVQuVlBwGEtQ_2r2aMf7ayObPN7a-O6L6vfP0_fUvOTHZEaJv26507mdL195Rky77hjc7ggHN7rj6WiMfmZMBtPquLS7YLfYOGdZ1PVRORJ3f08Zi96htalY6uLJQPqhcV9Sti3EcA3_dpaGQWY3xYVbqeIq7tStnrSWlZkSUppnKybQHpRA/s3440/bison-20240211a.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3440" data-original-width="2124" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGXGIWfj-KVQuVlBwGEtQ_2r2aMf7ayObPN7a-O6L6vfP0_fUvOTHZEaJv26507mdL195Rky77hjc7ggHN7rj6WiMfmZMBtPquLS7YLfYOGdZ1PVRORJ3f08Zi96htalY6uLJQPqhcV9Sti3EcA3_dpaGQWY3xYVbqeIq7tStnrSWlZkSUppnKybQHpRA/w396-h640/bison-20240211a.jpg" width="396" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><b><i><span style="font-size: medium;">Buffalo County</span></i></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">11 February 2024</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Acrylic on wood</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">11 x 17 in (27.9 x 43.2 cm)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">- <a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/p/the-store.html#:~:text=Buffalo County">FOR SALE</a> -</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">This was a painting I conceptualized very quickly and painted quickly - most of it. I painted everything minus the buffalo over three days. However, I let the buffalo get into my mind (over thought it) so it sat for another 20ish days. I finally got over the hurdle and just did it, and was pretty happy with him. One thing that wasn't as desired / planned was his size. The initial vision was he was going to fill much more of the scene. As far as the size, the wood was cut to fit a pretty cool frame I found and refurbished. The frame had a nice mat built in so I grabbed for future use. It held a print <i><b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Matthew_and_the_Angel_(Reni)" target="_blank">Saint Matthew and the Angel</a></b></i> by Guido Reni circa 1635 (shown below). I made a board of slats which are glued together. I hope that endures the test of time. The big plant is similar to something I've seen before. It's like a kniphofia, but less showy. If I see it again, I'll try to update this post. The thistles were initial a practice run for <b><i><a href="https://musketmedia.blogspot.com/2024/01/thistle-heart-2024-01.html">Thistle Heart</a></i></b>.
