I wanted to make a quick comment on one of the paintings I saw in Milan and the Italian town I reside in. There is a very predomiant domed church - Chiesa di San Liberale - marking the east side of Sacile (Sa-chi-lay) which always reminded me of a painting but didn’t know which one, or who painted it. Interestingly enough, it’s Raphael’s Spozalizio (The Engagement of Virgin Mary) and it hangs in Milan’s Brera. When I saw it, I immediately realized it was the painting.
The similarities are striking - even down to the color. Other than the decorative spans between the wide and narrow sections they’re almost identical in construction. It’s as if the builder used Raphael’s painting as a blue print and didn’t have funding for those spans, the decorative crown just below the dome and the extra cylinder atop the dome. They even share similar steps. Now, if the builder had done this from memory of the painting - that would be incredible.
