Christmas Turtles, 2009
Watercolor and sumi-e, 38 x 30 cm (Cliver Collection). This is the 18th musket media card and 150 copies were created. The card read: I realize sea turtles painted in Hawaii are not the most original concept, but they offer an iconic way to close this island journey.
Life definitely comes with its peaks and valleys but it is those times which leave the strongest memories. Even under the roughest seas, these turtles move with a grace unaffected by the turmoil above. Swimming next to them and seeing how calm they are reminds you of the peace we find in our faith, friends, and family.
Yes, I was asked about the absence of tree ornaments. Those have found their way into most cards. It's there. See the fuzzed out red spot in the lower right? That's it.
My comments - the ornaments are no longer a 'standard'. You can see they've fallen out of 2015 and 2016...although some shot of red seems to make its appearance. Maybe that was a subliminal compromise.
