Asian Art Museum - San Francisco

This was an unplanned visit (sometimes the best ones) because I totally missed out on my Alcatraz tour.  And it was free day (or Target Sunday)!  The Asian Art Museum is actually very nice and full of stuff.  It was a coup to get in there for free.  I even ate at the cafeteria.
The collection included some great work from Zhao Shao'ang.  One example is Bird and Autumn Leaves, 1967 and Cicada and Bamboo, 1985 (below).  The simplicity of sumi-e painting with just the right amount of color amazes me.  When examined, they can be incredibly simple, abstract or even bordering on impressionist.  Nonetheless, the final image is everything the artist wants it to be.
