I took a bike ride out to the Bois de Boulogne (which is just west of Paris). I have been wanting to visit it and the weather was great today so my Rockville and I rolled out. I took a few shots...
This was a cool little shed (left) and the lake was surprisingly clear. On the right, is a shot looking down on the Grande Cascade. I thought the rocks looked cool with the pine trees (I love pine trees).
This is the lake the feeds into the grande cascade. The pic doesn't really do the colors justice but it looked very nice even though the water was not clear in this lake.
There's a path behind the waterfall which is always a cool point of view. As you might've guessed, the rock formations are man-made (the park was created in 1852-58). On the right is a monument des fusillés de la cascade du bois de Boulogne. The column lists the names of those killed and the base reads "Ici ont été fusillés 35 martyrs de la resistance le 16 aout 1944".
Above, is the front of the grande cascade. Below, and just across the street, is a very nice restaurant of the same name...la Grande Cascade. Very nice building with impeccably pruned plants.
I timed my return from the park to see Pont de Bir-Hakeim (map) at night. It's cool in the day, but I hadn't yet seen it with all its lights on. You can walk on either side but in the center of the bridge (right pic) there is a dedicated bike lane. Directly above, is a metro line - Line 6.
Close to the center of le pont is the central arch with the statue "La France renaissante" of Holger Wederkinch. Night shots with a smart phone are the best, but I thought the picture with the Eiffel Tour is cool - even though it's the back of the statue. On the right, is the front of the statue also showing an arch labeled "Viaduc de Passy" which was the original name. Below is a shot (not mine) of the statue in the day.
These pics are just artsy shots of a entrance to a Gruss Circus. Circuses are always interesting places and this marque reminded me of all the movies where weird stuff happens at circuses. It was a good bike ride.
