Petra | 201607

I finally made it to the lost city of Petra (which reminded me of Petra) and it was a great thing to see. As a side note, we hit the Dead Sea enroute.  Of course I jumped in which completed the circuit for me - swimming on both the Jordanian and Israeli side of the Dead Sea.  Interestingly enough, I think it was about the same place on both sides - well south to avoid the hotels.  If you haven't been in that sea, you should.  You'll never experience that sensation anywhere else.  To the 'well south' comment, just drive south past the hotels and you can get in for free (on both sides).  If you walk Petra DO NOT do it with salt-laden flip flops like I did.  It's a bad idea for your feet.  Even without the salt, I recommend sneaks or other closed shoes.

As is often the case, the pictures won't capture the feelings and impressions created by the actual rock formations, but here are my pics...

My ticket and the information booklet.

The rock formations and patterns are simply amazing.  The only thing that ruins this experience
are the local kids trying to sell you donkey rides.  They simply will not leave you alone.

The infamous Treasury.  Cool thing to see.  This is a panoramic.

Another shot of the Treasury.

The rock formations enroute to the Treasury were really fantastic.
Pics are never the same as walking through it.

Again, if you get the chance to see Petra, make sure you take it.
