Just bought myself an AMF Roadmaster! It's at least 20 years old (according to Wiki) since the plaque reads Olney, Illinois and Little Rock, Arkansas. I love bowling and AMF is a big name in bowling. It was in Goodwill and $22 so could i really pass it up? It's a five speed and with some air and some Ultra inflator and sealer (just to be sure), it road like a champion. I didn't have to adjust the brakes (they squeak) or the gear shifter. And the kickstand is rock solid. You actually have to kick it to release it. I will get a taller seat tube and it will be perfect for me.
Side note: if you use the Ultra sealer, wear your shades (or safety glasses) it will ricochet if the tire pressure is high enough. But in the end, it works. It hit my face and I'm fine. I do wonder how old the tires are. They've sat in a garage and/or Goodwill for so long, they changed their shape.
UPDATE: the sealer didn't last (below right)...I had to resort to new tubes. In the end, it's a good skill to practice, so I didn't mind. After I finished with the tubes, I realized I had no air. But I remembered I had a battery operated compressor in my truck box. It's the TruckAir 275 psi (Model HD-275) and I don't think I had ever used it. To be honest, I had low confidence. The tires are 55-60 psi and I've seen pumps struggle at much lower psi. Have to say, it worked like a champ! Tires inflated in seconds. Good to know I have a functional pump.
Container of the TruckAir (from the web) and the Ultra tire sealer.
