Box Radio (original), 1992
Cardboard and radio components
The idea for box radios stemmed from necessity. I’m a big radio man and wanted one at school. Limited on space, I condensed a radio as small as I could. Yes, this and all the box radios work. Box Radio 01 is shown here at its home in my dorm room (fit perfectly). Most people had books there - as I probably should have. You've heard "life's like a box of chocolates", but personally, I like to say it's like a radio. With a radio, you might get a preview of the next three songs. Yes, there are schedules and slotted programs, but when in the music, you don't know what's coming. With chocolates, there's often a map in the lid. I like my expression better.
