Tim Piccin

Tim "Kilo" Piccin
A friend and fighter pilot, "Kilo" Piccin has begun working with concrete - and is addicted. Kilo remodeled his entire apartment in Savanna and learned many interesting things during the process. He constructed a large, stand-alone island for his kitchen and a wall-length countertop for the bathroom. Kilo is so enthused about his structures he and his friend in Savanna, Fat, have started a company, “Timmy Fat Design”. I will post their website when it’s available. Thanks, Kilo. His work adds a rather different and unexpected medium to Musket Media and it is a welcomed contribution.

Concrete / Brick
Kilo did extensive work on this room. He removed existing drywall covering the bricks and the ceiling leaving a new, rugged look. The focus of Kilo's work was the island - custom built and made of solid material. The legs are solid metal and the top is solid concrete. The concrete is what Kilo enjoys the most and the creativity is shown with the materials set in the stone.

Multiple Materials

This shot shows the unique lamps Kilo used to illuminate the island. You can also see how the refrigerator is combined with a cabinet. This is a nice way to hide the rather bland sides of a fridge and get good storage space all in one piece.

Concrete and steele
This is Kilo's entry into the world of concrete. The island is comprised of two massive pieces - the higher, larger “L” shape placed at a bar height and the smaller, lower rectangle offering a very nice, spacious work area. If you look at the bottom of the picture, you can see the frame is very minimal which in turn opens up the room. Although difficult to see in this photo, the concrete is sealed and speckled with pieces of broken glass.

Multiple Materials
Kilo made nice use of this studio space in Savanna. Placing the furniture around the bright rug gives the feeling this is a separate “room”. The awesome painting behind the couch was done by Kilo’s sister.

Multiple Materials
This is a very simple layout, but gives a striking and classic look. The red panel is another of his sister’s works and the only other objects in the room lead us to believe Kilo might like racing and Ferrari.

Oil Pastels
Here is another of Kilo’s concrete pieces used in the bathroom. An interesting point about this sink - Kilo used a wooden salad bowl. The bowl had a rich pattern he wanted to display so he thought he'd give it a try. After lots of polyurethane, the bowl was ready to become a sink. Kilo attached the bowl from the bottom so there is no lip to clean around.

Concrete, dye, glass
After making his first pieces with concrete, Kilo was hooked. He and his friend, Fat, began creating several different effects in their concrete. This mold holds eight different schemes - all of which will be used as samples. You can see how different they are but you can't appreciate the final result until they are set and finished.

This is the fun (and creative) part - what to use in the concrete and how to prepare it. The preparation - smashing it with a hammer - is the best part.
