San Jose Museum of Art

I visited the San Jose Museum of Art (SJMoA) and the Winchester Mystery House today.  Quick review ... both were good to see and worth the visit, but the SJMoA was a little light on the collection - especially for its size.
SJMoA: the museum itself is a cool building and has a great main hall on the second floor (second picture below).  Halls like this make an awesome setting for a gallery but they don't hold a lot of art.

There were some pieces that grabbed my attention and I've listed them below.  You can't take pictures, but I took some notes.  I understand restricting flash photography, but I've never understood restricting pictures without flash - it's the same as looking at it with your eyes.  The painting from Paul Jenkins is not the painting at the SJMoA, but is a similar style.  The painting shown is "Phenomena Yellow Strike" but the painting there is "Phenomena of the Beholder".  Some favs:

Paul Jenkins, Phenomena Yellow Strike 1963,acrylic on canvas 80 x 40 inches 203 x 101.6 cm
Museum of Modern Art, New York City. Gift of David Kluger.
 .

Edward Corbett, Untitled (Black Painting), 1950, Oil and enamel on canvas, 60 x 50 inches
.
Nathan Oliveira, Raptor 1, 1986, Oil on canvas, 60 x 52 inches, Gift of Deedee and Burton McMurtry
.

Winchester Mystery House: I had seen this on television before and realized it was in San Jose by Yelping points of interest.  This is an impressive house and full of cool ideas - they're random, but they're cool.  With 160 rooms, there's probably at least one thing to match everyone's taste. One of my favorite things were all windows (10,000 panes) and many of them were stained glass. The Winchester House is very strict on photographs and using their images but there are some good shots at their website and a couple at Wiki.
