I was lucky enough to attend a joint education course in Norfolk, Virginia for about eight weeks! I had a great group of people to work with and it was a fantastic break from work! Here are some random memories...
This is a great painting - I wish I had a better image of it. It's an SR-71 ripping through some nice clouds and is titled "Eye Above the Storm" by Allen S. Harmon. I love how it looks more like a spaceship than an airplane.
A couple of drinks of interest...on the left is a "Manhattan" and on the right, a beer at a restaurant owned by one of our classmates. The Manhattan was captured because the mixer thought they were fantastic and mixed perfectly. I kind of disagreed but it became funny.
Another shot of the Rappahannock Oyster Company beer glass and an awesome crab cake. One of our classmates owned this restaurant and took us there for a fantastic lunch. The food and company were perfect and he gave us an awesome discount! This restaurant is called Merrior. If you're ever in the area, it's worth a visit!
We took some great field trips - usually on Fridays which is a perfect idea!
One stop was the "Whiskey", also known as the USS Wisconsin. An impressive battleship!
Another field trip was to the MacArthur Memorial in downtown Norfolk. It was a cold day but a great outing. I could've taken dozens of pics, but these two stuck out. A watercolor of Lieutenant General Robert L. Eichelberger by John Cullen Murphy (left) and a war poster by L.N. Britton. Both of these are great watercolors and I love many war posters - often bold and so iconic. The general makes a bit jealous since I haven't been able to paint a person that well.
This was the awesome group of people (our Seminar) with whom I shared the experience.
By the way, downtown Norfolk is pretty nice if you get the chance to visit.
