So I had my first Christmas in Paris and it was quite the day. I took my parents on a bateau-mouche (using the quite popular Bateaux-Mouches) for a tour of the Seine which included a very nice lunch. The weather was terrific, our table was in a great place, the view was wonderful and the food delicious. The only thing that I would have changed is that my dad got really sick - actually for the last half of the trip. I felt pretty bad for him and, as normal, I felt basically helpless as you do when someone is sick. But, we made it through, took some good pics, and it goes without saying, we'll definitely remember it!
I thought these pics turned out cool. There was water on top of the bateau-mouche and I thought they would make a cool effect with the Eiffel Tour in the background. They basically turned out exactly like I had hoped.
My lovely folks - before my dad became ill.
Above, the Bateaux-Mouches dock as we departed for the cruise, and below, the plat principal. I failed to ask what it was and there was no carte ... it was good, but I can't tell you what it was. In fact, all the courses were great! Wine, cheese, dessert, entree, fois gras ... it was all great.
On the tour, I used the iPhone's great panoramic feature to take these shots of Notre Dame. I thought the birds in the picture above turned out great and while the picture below is rather plain, it shows how big the church really is.
My dad wanted to stay out in the open air so I walked them back from Pont de l'Alma. It was a great walk and I got a couple more good shots. I like how the picture of École Militaire (below) looks almost like a model. I zoomed in on the dome and fuzzed out the rest, and that coupled with the fantastic lighting really makes a cool effect.
It was a great and very memorable Christmas day!
