Christy's Hope
03 December 2017
Acrylic on canvas board
20 x 16 inches (51 cm x 41 cm)

From the card, "Life isn’t always a Norman Rockwell moment around the tree opening presents. Rather, it can bring a lot of challenges. At the same time, we were never promised smooth, well-lit paths with no uncertainty. And therein lies hope. Whether it’s just enough light to remove a shadow or the hope in an infallible Lord, it can immediately change your perspective of any situation. Not unlike the glorious dawn of a new day. My favorite thing about hope in an incredible Lord, is it’s a misnomer. It’s a certainty."

My comments - this was the 26th Musket Media Christmas Card, and my third acrylic (and third in a row).  This painting was inspired by an encounter I had just after Thanksgiving.  I liked the Normal Rockwell comment because you can often get reminded that people are live in a huge array of situations and many are not and simply won't be Norman Rockwell-ish. He is a great painter nonetheless. For the medium; I'm still digging what you can do with acrylic. Works like, and different, than watercolor, is relatively cheap, dries quickly and is easy to manage/clean.

Christy's Hope as it might appear framed. This is simulated - it's in a black wooden frame.

I didn't make any sketches but originally painted it as shown above, called Nitelight.  It focused on the light, but wasn't dark enough to really appreciate, or need, the light.  It also showed too much of the building.  Yes, it adds comfort, but it's not really the point.
