His purple mountain majesty in the sky.
This was the second painting of Pikes Peak I made for a invitation-only call for art. It was very nice to be asked to participate, and in all reality, I probably wouldn't've painting Pikes Peak without the invitation. It was good practice. The concept here was to paint the mountain rising above a layer of clouds. I had actually seen this on a flight just a few days after being invited to participate. I thought it would be a view most other people wouldn't paint - hence Rare View. This was submitted along side Pikes Hero. The gallery suggested they have a interested buyer with a 'high potential for sale'. Let's hope that happens
A gif of the progress - about 18 days had passed. I had a frame I thought I'd use (Kimberly and I bought it a place where people can sell anything they want - kind of cool place. Since I had a predetermined size (the frame), I again went with wood. I quickly learned the larger the wood, the trickier the sky. The wood absorbs the paint so quickly it's difficult to get the blends you're looking for. However, I'm still a fan of wood and I love that you can cut-to-fit whatever you're using.
In the frame I had planned to use.
