I visited the de Young in San Francisco in early January 2013. The museum is a cool building in one of San Fran's biggest parks. If you can get to the observation floor, it's worth the view of the city. And there is a large satellite shot of the city which is cool to compare to what you're actually seeing. Of the art, there was a lot. Lots to see and many good things, but there were a couple I found noteworthy.
I loved the trees in Maynard Dixon's November in Nevada:
And then there was this rather unique piece - made of bullets, shot, shells and even an actual human spinal cord. It is a cathedral by Al Farrow:
