Sunrise Encounter | 2018-09

One of the coolest things in life is to stumble across (not planned) something you've seen and/or thought about for years - for whatever reason. I was at a pre-retirement meeting which was primarily addressing admin and lo and behold, in the hallway across from our meeting room was Sunrise Encounter by Keith Ferris! He's 90, by the way. Aside from being an awesome 'happening', it was the second time it happened with a Keith Ferris! Why the excitement? Because he's' awesome and none of his paintings look like a cartoon (which I do not like).
The other encounter was in Hawaii when I walked into an under-used stairwell and there in all its glory was "Forget Me Not". Very hard to find, but a great painting of a missing man formation with Thuds. It was at least 5' x 8' if not bigger. All I wanted to do was take it (mainly because no one seems to like it).
This is Forget Me Not

So back to Sunrise Encounter...not only is it a great painting with an F-16 about to destroy an F-5, it just so happened to be on page 95 of our Contrails. If you're asked what's on page XX of a book, there's nothing better than a picture! Too easy to remember. Also cool is it's a Hill AFB jet and I was lucky enough to fly Hill jets. So here it is...

Sunrise Encounter by Keith Ferris...the actual painting!
