I was tired of saying "a tray would be handy" so I made one with some scrap/leftover wood. The wood I had couldn't make both of the long sides so I mirrored the split - called it an accent. One thing that worked out better than I planned is it holds two dinner plates just about perfectly. I oiled the wood just to add some liquid/food protection. I use vegetable oil which I think works great and is pretty inexpensive.
