I bought a frame at because it was a pretty versatile size - 16 x 20 - and it was a good price. It had a painting of a panther in it...which is the first picture of the gif below. I like having a second surface around when painting so I can get rid of paint instead of wasting it. As I was doodling with excess paint, I kind of saw a flying horse with rider. I wanted to try painting the horse and its rider with no reference so I went with the concept. The reference is Revelation 6:8 and the rider, Death, was preceded by three other horses. This was the idea for The Horses made a few months earlier. I thought about making a rather large sword positioned similar to the spear, but liked how the spear turned out. I've seen other interpretations without a sword, so we'll chalk it up to artistic interpretation.

Pale in the frame it was purchased in. I refurbished the frame's finish.
