I had a layover in San Francisco and not only was it a beautiful day, it was with a friend I hadn't spent time with for years. It was a great trip. Here are some walking-around pictures.
Above left is Saint Patrick Catholic Church which happens to be San Francisco's Historic Landmark #4. And to my amazement, it was open. I think churches should be open to the public. This shot was across the street and I wanted to capture the skyscraper behind it. It was a nice church. On the right is the San Francisco Marriott Marquis and it's a nice looking building.
Just blocks from the Marquis, are the Yerba Buena Gardens and associated park. It's a very nice area. The water fall above left is part of the Martin Luther King Memorial. It's very nicely done and the water and stone work make a very peaceful environment. The above right picture struck a cord with me. Even limited to mobility with a chair, this person was enjoying the park as best he could. I also liked how he parked in the center facing the waterfall. Better than in a chair at home.
Above left is a stream to the left of the waterfall. The water feeds both the fall and the runoff for this stream. The cube-like structure is attached to the Contemporary Jewish Museum. It is closed either temporarily or indefinitely depending on where you get your info. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, or SFMOMA, is also in this area. I was bummed to find out the day I was there it opened at noon. That didn't work for the schedule. I was fortunate to get there five years prior but would have liked a revisit. The picture on the right is another shot of the St Patrick Catholic Church - after I'd been inside. I didn't take pictures inside as there were several people visiting.
