I wanted to make an abstract painting and thought a tree would make an interesting contrast with the rest of the painting - the tree being easier to recognize/define than the res of the scene. It reminds me that in unknown situations, there can be things that reground us and bring us back to a starting point. That can get us started on a path to making sense of where we are or what we see. The tree was originally all grey scale. I liked it that way but thought the greens were a good compliment to the scant colors.
