Familiarity

I wanted to do some more experimenting with the backside of a print. This was also done with Crane, High Plains Bluff and Real Sacrifice. It's essentially waterproof so while it's an interesting surface, it can also be pretty challenging. I did some squeegee work, some sketching with markers and traditional painting. One thing I like to do is see if an idea/image hits me after initial color application. The red face is part of the original color and I wish I would have taken a picture of that laydown. Sometimes it's best to leave things as they are. I might have over painted this, but I certainly like certain aspects. "Familiarity" comes from the possibility the faces bring back memories of those we know and/or the familiarity of the two in the image.
The original print is above left. I called it "Slats", and the full sheet before I framed it (right).
Familiarity in its frame. I waffled between two, but thought the black was a good match.
